Design & Technology - Resistant Materials

Over the 3 years of the course it will introduce you to as many materials and techniques as is possible.

In Year 10 you will be involved in several project that will allow you to work in a variety of mediums such as woods, plastics and metals.  You will look at methods of engineering, construction and manufacturing and CAD/CAM.  By the end of the course you should be a competent user of both theoretical and practical design techniques.

Controlled Assessment.  This project is completed between summer of Year 10 and Spring terms of Year 11.  This will allow you to pick a suitable product to design and make using a variety of materials, tools and skills.  At the end of the course you should be left with a professionally finished product and a supporting evidence folder of around 20-30 pages of A3.

Assessment:

Through the course you will be assessed on a range of tasks, both practical and theoretical.

Examination:

Written Exam in Year 11

Weighting 40%

Course work Project taking place between Year 10 and Year 11 resulting in an evidence folder of around 20-30 pages of A3

Weighting 60%
